intact #Eyeball removed for choroidal #Melanoma. While smaller choroidal melanomas can be treated with radiation, once the size expands to almost the entire eye, removal is usually necessary. Like any malignant tumor, this can also metastasize to distant organs. While still quite a rare tumor, choroidal melanoma is the most common primary malignant eye tumor. Within the choroid (underneath the retina), there are melanocytes (pigmented cells), which is how melanoma can develop in a location not typically associated with melanoma.
