A patient displays peeling rashes, one of the severe side effects of Chagas medication that can discourage continued treatment. @DrsWithoutBorders has treated Chagas in Latin America since 1999 but existing drugs and diagnostic tests are inadequate, expensive, and in short supply. Chagas is a deadly parasitic disease affecting 10 to 12 million people worldwide. It spreads by the bite of triatomines, aka “kissing bugs”. Left untreated, Chagas causes fatal heart, nerve, and digestive damage. Too often, isolated peoples cannot access the care and testing they need to protect themselves.
